British Food Fortnight (BFF) takes place again from 17th September to 2nd October, giving food retailers an opportunity to bring focus and interest to British food for their customers, and gain valuable publicity in the process.

More of the ‘O’ word in future postings, but suffice to say that next year’s BFF takes place over the Olympics - so operators can see 2011 as a dry run for what you may want to do in 2012. A flurry of activity now, with the right on-site promotion could also boost Christmas sales.

Full information is available from the Love British Food website - www.lovebritishfood.co.uk . Including  point of sale material to display at your premises.

Ideas include:

Creating special menus from traditional British recipes

Matching British food with British beer and wine

A local local challenge - how few miles can you cover to create a complete dish?

Work with a local supplier to generate an event or competition. (Demonstrations and talks.)

Visiting a local school to talk, demonstrate and have participation in cooking British food

Local sausage tasting competition. Customers rate the best

Customers bring home grown food for chef to create their dish. (Chef will love that one!)

Everything with British apples, including cider

Once you have come up with your ideas, prepare a press release and send to the Western Morning News, your local weekly paper, parish magazine, your own notice board etc.

Take photos of your events, again use them for a press release, blow them up and display them on your ‘publicity wall’.

You have to be ‘in it to win it!
